MPC’s physiotherapists are trained and experienced in the use of acupuncture and dry needling techniques to help alleviate muscle tension and pain.
Our physiotherapists are all Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP) registered, and have undergone post graduate training in order to practice.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine stainless steel needles into the skin. It has been used in China for over 2,000 years and increasingly in Western medicine since the 1970s. Acupuncture can be used to treat a range of musculoskeletal conditions to reduce pain.
Acupuncture stimulates the body to produce its own pain and stress-relieving chemicals. It encourages a sense of well-being by stimulating the release of serotonin, your feel-good hormone. Acupuncture also stimulates nerve fibres to block out pain signals and helps to reduce the sensitivity of tender points in the body.
Acupuncture can also be an excellent treatment for back pain, headaches and neck pain. Pain arising from arthritis also responds extremely well to acupuncture.
